Cat won’t use litter tray!!!!?
I have 2 cats, 1 of them will not use the litter tray and poo’s and wee’s near the box and has now just started going near the front door. We have 2 boxes and they are cleaned twice a day. We also wash the floor with floor cleaner after he does something on the floor. We have tried rubbing lemon on the floor around the boxes as someone told us cats dont like citrus smells but this didn’t help. We have tried using different types of kitty litter such as crystals, absorbant fine rock kitty litter and larger bits of kitty litter but he still hardly uses the box. The occasional time he uses the box he never covers his stuff up either. I also make sure there are no loose bits of kitty litter around the boxes on the floor. We thought it might be cos he was not desexed but we got him desexed and it didn’t change. We need help!
Ok, so if your cat has been neutered, and is still not going to the litter box, that could mean a couple of things. One, he could have a UTI (urinary tract infection) and he’s trying to tell you that he isn’t feeling right. Two, if you just had him neutered, his testosterone may not be completely out of his system, so he is still marking. Also cats will still “mark” territory after they have been spayed or neutered, the neutering just tends to make them want to do it less, and it takes time for the “possessive connection” to go away. Cats mark territory because they want other cats and people sometimes, to know that whatever they’re marking is “theirs”. There is a shot now to prevent “marking” available at vets, you have to call your local vet and ask about it. Another reason he could be doing it is, if there has been a change in his environment that would upset him, like a new comer to the family, or if you have moved his litter box. Either way, no matter what it is, your cat cannot tell you, so unfortunately your answer is… take him to the vet and have him examined.
