I went looking for a cat scratching post and I must admit I was surprised at how much pet stores charge for a these. They seemed very expensive since they are really are just a few pieces of wood and carpet.
An often overlooked way to avoid paying a high price for cat posts is to make your own. For the price of a couple of pieces of wood and some cheap carpet making your own cat scratching post is not only fun but will save you money in the long run.
So in this article I will teach what you need to make a cat scratching post. If your a beginner in woodworking making a basic catpost might be the best option. Cat Post Supplies:
Sourcing good quality wood for free is hard unless you know someone in the carpentry industry so even though you would like to make this as cheap as you can I would just head down to you local hardware store and buy your wood there .You will need some wood screws and tacks or strong staples as these are needed to attach your carpet to the cat post. You will need to purchase a small piece of carpet as well. You can ask the owner at your local carpet store if they have any carpet leftovers.
To cover my cat scratching post I used a piece of soft carpet or you can even use artificial turf.I like carpet better and remember that this has to sit in your house so it's better for it to look appealing to you and your visitors.
Work area:
Make sure you have all the tools and material required . Make sure your work area is well ventilated and is work safe . You will need a sturdy table and safe electricity points to use your power tools.
Cat Scratching Post Plans :
Your three best options for a cat post plan is to look on the internet or go to your local library and see if there is any woodworking books available. Your local pet shop may have a book on how to make a cat scratching post.
You can add some finishing touches to your cat post by hanging a toy bells. This also helps to make your cat curious and start it using the scratching post.
