I found a mouse outside in the snow on the exterior stair case of my apartment buidling. I put on rubber gloves and the mouse allowed me to approach and pet it. I picked it up and put it in large tupparware with air holes, a hamburger bun, some baby spinach and some water. He's doing fine.

The mouse has a tan undercoat and and a little darker top coat and is kind of speckled. He is well groomed and really appears to be more of a pet than a wild animal. He's eating fine.

I've called a few vets and the humane society who told me they would not test a mouse for diseases but it sounded like a pet and was probably safe but to keep it at my own risk.

If I were to keep it and put it in a cage and pet it when wearing gloves, would there be any problem with that? Is there anything I or my cats could catch that would be airborne? Any opinions of what I can do? Is it safe to keep?
