Alternatives to being natural
A recent survey showed that most Americans disapprove of homosexuals. When asked "Why what? "the main reason given was that they thought being gay was something" unnatural. "There is no simple answer to this: the next question should be "Have you ever been on holiday?" Yes, it's a matter of capture because the following query is to ask, 'How come? Unless actually walked there - yes, outside the home, and start walking down the street - then other questions are completely "unnatural." My guess is that most will respond "in flight", since when did blow up into a "natural" part of being human? If answer is that you are driving, take a bus or train, the answer is the same: since when wheels become a "natural" part of humanity?
There is an additional problem. How long the "vacation" to be "natural" part of being one of our species, too? No, "vacation" are actually a recent cultural invention. No peasant in medieval Europe never went on vacation. Pilgrimage, yes, but it was a duty. There is a gene within that tells us we need a couple of weeks away from home each year. That is totally unique in Western life, in this century, and even apply to most things humans alive today. People in Chad and Darfur do not receive vacation, despite the need. Nor are the other creatures. When was the time - apart from a movie cartoons - see a mouse go on holiday? When temporary penguins? (Only in the movies!)
But the argument of being "natural" rumbles on, the latest to do with food. Some people fear that the corn we eat is being manipulated. Ie, called "genetically modified, and genetic manipulation is now the big thing in the West. However, crops are also being interfered with by it on the field, spraying chemicals, the land was filled with artificial fertilizers. There is an ongoing movement that says we have to be "chemical free" and "organic" thus reducing chemicals annoying, but the cereal was open to attack by microbes and insects. Hey, that's fine: it is "natural." As a nurse friend of mine often says, 'Let's talk about smallpox. That is completely natural! One small problem: the idea of planting a large piece of land with a single plant called agriculture and was invented only by humans around the end of the last ice age, say seven or eight thousand years ago, at least. If you really we want to be "natural," then you would have to completely get rid of corn - and all other cereal crops that have been artificially enhanced by generations - and get back to human beings was originally best: hunting and gathering. In fact, buying anything from a supermarket is "unnatural." Eat anything you have not picked up or killed itself is "unnatural." The argument does not hold. Can not keep the wheat fields and waste pesticide. Both are constructions of the human mind.
However, it also applies to most things we do every day. In England, there is a habit of throwing wrappers and packaging on the ground, then wait for someone to pick it up. It's called 'garbage' and most people accept that it is not really correct, but somehow so that just can not seem to stop themselves, as a recent movie by Bill Bryson shown. What the little Englanders do not seem to appreciate is that while dumping seems natural to them, really does not happen in other parts of Europe as Germany and Switzerland. There, for some reason, seems perfectly "natural" expect people to take their houses away and take responsibility for disposing of it. English people are the children: make a mess and expect to have to clean. Is It also applies to nuclear waste, and household appliances.
Also the toilet. When I worked in the Cooperative Development in 1980's, I found that many people have had problems with the idea that all workers in the organization could be the same. "Who's wash the coffee cups? "he lamented. He never seemed to cotton on the fact that if all the people who enjoyed a cup of coffee then took the cup or a cup to the kitchen, gave him a flush and replace the drain board, then there would need to hire someone just to make the mundane task of washing dishes. Or clean the bathroom. "Who will clean the bathroom?" I asked, as if the question of the murderer. I thought about littering. If all world with a piece of garbage responsibility for it, it is not necessary to use clean bands. That was my philosophy: if you make a mess, clean it. I suggested that applies to the bathrooms too. You make a mess, clean it up. What makes you special? What gives you the right to expect others to clean up after you? Did a steward when you were little? Does your family employ a maid? In Britain, there are a large number of households employing more staff. Lost helpers, just have not lost the attitude. Perhaps the cleaning crew of the new generation is called Mother. Young people used to the idea that vessels wash and clean toilets are: they do not have to. There is no simple answer to that. Most people can overcome the disadvantages of poor education. Admit that the experience the youth is not "natural." Out there in the real world, when you're an adult, you have to take responsibility. Make a mess? Cleaning.
Then all you have to do is develop a new consciousness. Take a day and see what we do, from the moment he is awakened by an alarm clock (not natural) while the teeth clean (ditto), to commute, time spent living - how much time has to go through the day before anything happens to you that is completely "natural"? Food? Go to the bathroom? Unless you get it from eating berries and relieve trees in the forest, then even "natural" functions have been cornered and forced by modern life. No, it's time to leave the "natural" merry-go-round. There is no harm in choosing the life you want, and decide what foods do you think will be good for you, but the deployment of the argument that the road ahead will be more "natural" is unlikely to be to convince teeniest bit.
