The Courage of Disabled Pets
What if the well trained, generally well educated, family dog forgets him, rushes to the street, is hit by a car and loses a leg? Or, your mild mannered cat is involved in a fight with local bullying Tom and loses an eye?
Does this mean that the quality of life for your pet is so low that euthanasia would be kindness?
Use your favorite search engine and type "animals disability, "disabled pets" or a similar phrase and you'll find story after story, report after report about pets brave with all types of disabilities - and yet live a happy and contented life bring joy to their owners.
Proud owners talk about their pets with disabilities, as a deaf cat being "called" for the night to change a light inside and out. Dogs that have lost their hind legs to move and enjoy playing with a special car (Also known as a pet wheelchair.) A story of a blind horse whose value was the inspiration for a new space for animal rescue. These and other stories show that with a little help from their owners, pets with disabilities can still enjoy a happy full of life quality.
My own experience Caring for a pet with disabilities was very lucrative. I had shared my life with a tabby cat named Basil since he was a kitten. Met with a traffic accident results in the little that has one of his hind legs amputated.
I really did not know what to expect. How would this affect the life of Basil? Would he still the same cat that I loved so much?
I did not have to worry about. Basil's personality had not changed a bit. Kills, and had very little to no could do after his accident he could not do before. Maybe he could not climb a tree, but the fences do not seem to be a problem. He'd walk along the top fence very close, and so easily that it was if he was saying "Hey! Who needs four legs?"
I convinced that my cat did not realize he had a disability called. I would say that the missing limb did not decrease the quality of life of the cat in any manner whatsoever.
Perhaps some animals suffer an injury or illness that leaves them with poor quality of life that a vet would recommend that permanent sleep would an act of kindness. But after surfing the Internet seem to like my Basil, often pets with disabilities get on with your life and fun gives a lot of love on the road.
