Is it ok to Declaw A Cat that's about 8 years old?
I have had my cat for about 8 years now. She's a GREAT cat, but we just recently bought a new house and she's starting to tear up my door casings. I don't know what else to do. She won't have anything to do with a scratching post. I've heard if you declaw a cat in their later years that they could go into disstress!?!?! Will it really harm my cat at such an old age? Please give me any advice. I love this cat but my husband is really getting annoyed and I can't blame him!

apart from it being completely unnecessary, declawing is illegal in most countries for several reasons -
1. its an amputation. cats claws are not like human figernails. they are attached to the last bone in their toe, which means this bone has to be amuputated when declawing a cat.
