Critics state that irradiated foods spoiled food can be masked by irradiation and resold as good food. And very deadly bacterial toxins such as botulism that may already be present in food are not adversely affected by irradiation, but the bacteria die leaving no way of knowing the food was contaminated with botulism bacteria that normally swell when contaminated canned foods. And critics say that the radiation is completely unnecessary in the current system of food handling and could lead to much lower quality management practices throughout the food industry.
U.S. Today allow food irradiation of tropical fruits from Hawaii and Florida, ground meat products and dried spices. And the potatoes and wheat flour has been irradiated from the 1960's. The food is supposed to be marked at the supermarket, when irradiated with a symbol Radura at the point of sale and labeled "treated with radiation." But if you eat in restaurants do not need labeling.
The FDA proposes new rules to not allow the labeling of irradiated foods. And the FDA is proposing the change in the labeling of irradiated foods to say "electronically pasteurized" or "cold pasteurized" as a description process less frightening. I like the new labeling proposed by the FDA. Has a nice ring of truth to that and not even mentioned ionizing radiation and altering the DNA mutates in irradiated foods. I feel so relieved that the re-labeling of irradiated foods by the FDA to make safe and healthy again for the general public.
Perhaps the FDA, irradiation, Food and pet food executives and their families should be forced to participate in a study of long-term good faith to determine the safety of irradiated foods for the general public and the world. You can eat your regular diet that has been irradiated and see what they and their families become in the future. So instead of eating would be fine in the current FDA Frankenstein that has been found fit for human consumption. It would also be interesting to see the divorce rates these executives just before the start of the studies.
Food Irradiation pet food is totally unnecessary, and that pets have a acidic stomach contents much higher to kill germs in their food consumed. I apologize to the Australian Quarantine and Inspection as soon relented and no longer require food for animals to ionizing radiation can irradiate food or pet inside your country.
