Ask Your Vet If Frontline Or Advantage Flea Drops Are Right For Your Pet
When you use Frontline or Advantage Flea Drops (or another flea killer recommended by your vet) you are applying a small but powerful dose of medicine to help get rid of all your cats fleas.
These products are both reported to be able to stop flea biting in 3-5 minutes, by paralyzing the fleas, and will kill the adult fleas within 24 hours. That's pretty amazing. Even better is that the flea drops will stay effective for an entire month, even if you wash your pet with soap and water, he likes to go swimming or, as with cats - they are always grooming themselves.
The way Frontline and Advantage flea drops work is very similar, even though they are made by different companies and have different active ingredients. Basically, you use a small dropper to apply a drop of medicine to the back of your pets head and down his backbone (with larger dogs) and from there it is able to distribute itself throughout your pet's body. It is stored in the subcutaneous layer of fat just under the pet's skin. It is not "on the hair" and that's why it's not bad to wash the pet's hair.
Flea drops are good because, unlike flea dips, baths, and sprays, they don't use an excessive amount of chemicals that are getting sprayed into the air or that you are having to soak your hands in. They are just small, discrete applications.
While it certainly makes sense to try natural flea control remedies, like vacuuming your house, using a flea comb and having your pet bed down in cedar shavings, you may find that if you live in an area of the country with a lot of fleas, these methods may not be enough to really control the parasites on your pet. And, as you know, once your dog or cat gets fleas, they can reproduce quickly and spread to other pets and people in the home. In addition to their grossness, and annoying bites, these parasites can carry harmful diseases, including Lyme disease which have serious consequences for people as well as pets.
Take whatever steps your vet recommends, including Frontline or Advantage flea drops, if necessary, to make sure that fleas and ticks stay out of your home and off your pet!
