Do all cats be playful and talkative or just certain races?

I might be getting a week 6 years kitten soon, but I do not know that they.are race. Do all cats be playful and talkative, regardless of race or do some breeds do not do it at all? I know nothing about cats ... I will be Cat ownership first time:)
