Cat Scratcher Pretty

I need to relocate my recently sick cat from NYC to Boston...?
but he is just recovering from a urinary and bladder infection. How long should I wait before moving him? He's a pretty skittish little guy so I know he'll be stressed out by the move. I am not sure if I should wait a week, two...more? Also, his cat-scratcher is old and his bed was ruined when he got sick. Should I buy new stuff here in NYC and have him get used to them in my current apartment and then move everything to Boston? Or, should I just buy everything new up there? I think cats like to smell/feel familiar things when they move?
Thanks!
I agree with buying new things now and moving them once the kitty is used to them. when I moved with my cats, they were completely freaked out. I placed them in a back bathroom with one of their litter boxes, their favorite climbing tree, and a blanket I use a lot so it smells like me. They were still very unsettled despite the using of feliway (a product that mimics the welcoming scent that cats leave on things when they rub on them) Once they were let out of the bathroom and saw the bed was set up there, they were much more confident and willing to explore the new home knowing this was where all their stuff was.
as for the infection, was it a true infection? Was the urine ever tested for bacteria, or did the cat just pee on things and the vet prescribed antibiotics and told you to use a "prescription' food"? It is a shame that urinary problems in cats are not explained better nor dealt with better by vets. A lot of the time when cats urinate outside of the box and a vet calls it a urinary infection, it really is a problem with crystals forming in urine that is too alkaline and that is too concentrated because the cat is eating inappropriate food. Dry food is mostly plant matter and not meat. Plant matter is alkalining and meat is acidifying. Feeding your cat a diet that is high in meat based proteins and is high in moisture and low in carbohydrates is actually better in the long run for your cat, but most vets don't want to know this because they make money selling you food. They rely on the pet food companies who make them money telling them what works, because it is profitable and easy to pass the buck. Their "prescription" foods do work, so the vets rely on them, but they don't take into account the cost to the cat of eating such a poor diet.
Check out http://www.catinfo.org a website run by a vet who studies feline nutrition. There is a section on urinary issues, which should help you understand it better.
Good luck with your move
