Pet rat bedding issue; EMERGENCY.?
I recently bought a pet rat without much time to think about what to get for him. Foolishly, I picked up pine bedding (I didn't know about the health risks). Just tonight, my rat started to make strange, wheezy noises. At first I thought he was just having a little sneezing fit, but he continued, so I looked up some answers and found out pine is bad for them. Of course, I got rid of all his bedding right away and placed a lining of paper towels (it is midnight here, I can't go buy new bedding) at the bottom of his cage. He's making a few less noises now, but he is still making a good amount. The sounds are almost "bubbly".
My question is: Is my rat going to die now...?
For those who are asking: I got Dusty 5 days ago.
Also: he is making sounds sort of like whimpering too.
One more thing... I don't really have the money to take him to a vet...
Yeah, pine and cedar are big no, no's. He probably isn't going to die now but you need to get him in to a small animal vet as soon as you can.
Edit: Find the money. If you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet. Don't get pets if you cannot afford their care. You should have put money away for such situations. Sell things, ask friends and relatives to borrow, whatever you have to do. These animals are your responsibility.
